TTT: Santa Books


This week's TTT topic: It's supposed to be books you want Santa to leave you under the tree, but I always do it as books I'm GIVING to people. I want so many books there's no narrowing it down. And I love giving books to the kids in my life.

For Bit, age 11 sixth grade:


 For LM, age 7 second grade (DIFFICULT READER):

For the Entire Painter Family (including me-I cheated):

For the Niece, age almost 4:



In addition I bought her and LM both a set of these:
They are exactly as tiny and adorable as they look.

For the nephew, age 3 months:

Both are board books. You can never start Mo Willems fans too young.

What are some books you are giving or hoping to get this year?

I love your approach to the TTT topic! Giving books is such a wonderful experience. I gave my daughter a coffee table book on the art/drawings of Kurt Vonnegut -- she's a big fan of his, and loved it! Looks like your family members will be getting some terrific books this year. Enjoy!

That's a great approach to this week's topic. I guess I didn't think about doing it that way coz I'm kinda selfish. :P
But I did buy books for my godchildren this Christmas.

I love the book covers of those you're giving to Bit. They're lovely! I just added them to my TBR.

Merry Christmas, Brandy! Looks like I need to look for Mo Willems books for my godchildren. This year, I have a theme of giving books written by Filipino authors as gifts. So even for kiddie books, I've been looking for Filipino titles that I can give out.

Oh I am also quite selfish. It's why I can't do it the other way. Far too many wanted things to narrow it down.:)

I actually have my students create social media pages for characters for extra credit assignments, so I've always thought this was fun to think about. It actually really requires some character analysis to do well. Which social media fits this character's personality? What would they post about? How much of their inner lives would they share? A Tale of Two Castles

Gail Carson Levine is a great spinner of tales of magic.  I will say that I have not liked her subsequent novels nearly as much as I love Ella Enchanted , but when I read them I always enjoy them.  Her latest novel, A Tale of Two Castles , I enjoyed quite a bit.  It still comes in a distant second to Ella but it was an enjoyable read.  Any enthusiast of girl and dragon companion books will have a great deal of fun with this one. Summary (from Amazon ): Newly arrived in the town of Two Castles, Elodie unexpectedly becomes the assistant to a brilliant dragon named Meenore, and together they solve mysteries. Their most important case concerns the town’s shape-shifting ogre, Count Jonty Um: Someone is plotting against him. Piecing Me Together

A couple years ago  This Side of Home was one of my favorite reads so when I found out we were getting a new Renée Watson book this year it automatically became one of my most anticipated reads. Piecing Me Together lived up to all my expectations and then some. Jade lives in north Portland but goes to the fancy private school St. Francis on a scholarship. She knows this is her greatest opportunity to go to school and get out of Oregon. It can make her feel like she is living a dual life though. Her first two years there were successful academically, but she didn't make many friends. Shadowshaper  by Daniel José Older is everywhere. Best of lists. Award buzz. Blogs everywhere. It's one of those books everyone is reading and talking about. I had it on my TBR but decided I definitely needed to read it before the year was out just so I could weigh in on one of the most talked about books of 2015 if asked.
